Mbale, Uganda – In a groundbreaking move toward sustainable land management and rural economic empowerment, Manilom Global Solutions Co. Ltd has launched a transformative agroforestry initiative that is rapidly gaining traction across Uganda.
Agroforestry – the strategic integration of trees into agricultural systems – is emerging as a climate-smart solution to restore degraded land, enhance biodiversity, boost crop yields, and diversify farmer incomes. Manilom’s approach is not only ecological, but deeply economic and inclusive.
“Our vision is to redefine farming by aligning productivity with sustainability,” says Ilukor Geresom, Founder and Managing Director of Manilom Global Solutions. “Through agroforestry, we are planting more than trees — we are planting resilience, food security, and economic hope.”
🌿 Driving Impact at the Grassroots
Since early 2024, Manilom has initiated pilot projects in Eastern Uganda, training over 500 smallholder farmers on modern agroforestry techniques. The initiative provides:
- High-value tree seedlings (fruit, timber, and medicinal varieties)
- Capacity building through hands-on farmer field schools
- Technical support on land use planning and crop-tree integration
- Linkages to markets for agroforestry products
Already, early adopters are reporting improved soil quality, increased crop yields, and growing interest from neighboring communities.
🌍 A Scalable Solution to Climate and Livelihood Challenges
In a region facing soil degradation, erratic rainfall, and deforestation, agroforestry offers a practical solution to multiple crises. By integrating indigenous and fast-growing tree species with crops like maize, beans, and bananas, Manilom is turning subsistence plots into regenerative landscapes.
This initiative aligns with Uganda’s National Development Plan (NDP III) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), positioning Manilom as a strategic partner in national and global sustainability efforts.
🤝 Partnering for a Greener Future
Manilom is now calling on development agencies, environmental organizations, and government institutions to collaborate in scaling this model across Uganda and the East African region.
“The future of agriculture is green, regenerative, and community-led,” Geresom affirms. “We invite like-minded partners to join us in this journey to grow both trees and futures.”
