Ilukor Support Foundation (ISF) and Manilom Global Solutions Partner to Promote Mental Health in Schools Across Teso Region, Uganda

In a landmark collaboration, the Ilukor Support Foundation (ISF) has partnered with Manilom Global Solutions Co. Ltd to roll out school-based mental health programmes in the Teso region of Uganda. This timely initiative aims to address the growing mental health challenges among students and promote emotional well-being in learning environments.

The partnership responds to increasing evidence that mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance abuse are becoming prevalent among school-going children and adolescents, often affecting academic performance, behavior, and long-term life outcomes. However, many schools in Uganda still lack the structures, personnel, and support systems needed to respond effectively to these issues.

Through this collaboration, ISF and Manilom Global Solutions are working to bridge the gap by:

1. Providing mental health education and awareness to students, teachers, and parents.
2. Training school staff and peer leaders in basic psychosocial support and mental health first aid.
3. Establishing school-based counselling services and referral systems.
4. Promoting inclusive and safe school environments where learners can thrive emotionally and academically.

The programme is being piloted in selected primary and secondary schools across Teso sub-region, with plans for gradual expansion based on feedback and lessons learned. Early signs are promising: students are responding positively to mental health sessions, and schools are reporting reduced stigma and increased openness in discussing emotional challenges.

Mr. Ilukor Geresom, Founder of ISF and Managing Director of Manilom Global Solutions, emphasized the importance of the initiative:

"We believe that education must go hand-in-hand with emotional support. Children cannot learn effectively if they are burdened by trauma, anxiety, or stress. This programme is our contribution to nurturing a generation that is both mentally resilient and academically successful."

The initiative aligns with national priorities on adolescent health and the global agenda for mental health promotion in education settings. ISF and Manilom are calling on government bodies, local leaders, development partners, and the private sector to support and scale up such innovative models of school-based mental health interventions.

As the partnership continues to grow, it is hoped that more communities across Uganda will embrace mental wellness as a key pillar in educational development.
